Achieving long term success

These programmes are designed for senior management and those managers that have been identified as the leaders of the future. We believe leadership is a learned behaviour and we employ coaching as the primary method of learning to ensure that each person's development needs are specifically addressed.

The coaching is provided by Ithaca consultants and, in the case of peer group coaching, the other participants on the programme. Each peer group programme will be limited to a maximum of eight participants to ensure that individuals have ample time to express their opinions and to discuss their issues.

Individual feedback together with self assessments at the beginning and end of the programme will allow the individuals and the business to assess the personal development that has taken place during the programme. The sessions develop fundamental skills to enable all participants to achieve long term success for themselves and the business.

The programme will always be agreed with clients, but will typically run in one of three ways:

Option 1: Personal development coaching sessions for an individual on a topic or topics listed below.

Option 2: Peer group coaching personal development sessions on a topic or topics listed below.

The knowledge professional as:
  • A High Performer
  • A Strategic Decision Maker
  • An Authentic Leader
  • A Business Developer
  • A Trusted Advisor
  • A Communicator
  • A Coach
  • A Talent Manager
  • A Problem-solver and Coach
  • An Innovator
During each session we provide:
  • A framework - a blend of academic theory and best practice with tools to help you assess your strengths and weaknesses and identify your assets and liabilities
  • A forum - to share your collective experience to address challenges and opportunities in your personal and professional lives
  • Feedback - an honest assessment of your effort and results

Together, we develop an action plan.

Option 3: Communication skills for business leaders - a six month modular programme designed to enhance communication skills.

Initial assessment
360 degree feedback, including self assessment, is obtained for each participant. Each participant meets with an Ithaca consultant for a one-to-one coaching session to discuss the output from the initial 360 degree feedback.

Pre-module one
Participants meet each other and the Ithaca consultants in an informal setting such as a dinner. The purpose is to begin building or continuing to develop relationships with the other participants and the Ithaca consultants before the formal elements of the programme begin.

Module one (half day)
This module introduces the principles of ethical influencing including the work of a number of theorists and writers.

The four styles of influencing are introduced:
  • Motivational
  • Flexible
  • Logical
  • Driving

Modules two-five (half day each)
Each module will explore one of the four styles in more detail and will include:

  • The theory behind each style
  • How each style can be applied in practice
  • Observations of a renowned business leader
  • Discussion of the relevance, benefits and implications of applying each style
  • Consideration of each participants' ability to apply each style and, where appropriate, how to develop their skills
  • Strategies that may be adopted when the style is being used by another person
There is likely to be an interval of approximately one month between each module to allow time for reflection and application.

Peer group coaching
Between modules two and five there will be two meetings of all participants facilitated by Ithaca consultants. The purpose of these meetings will be to discuss participants' experiences of implementing the different influencing styles and to provide further help and advice.

One-to-one coaching
Also between modules two and five, each participant will have the opportunity for a coaching session with an Ithaca consultant to focus on strategies to broaden the range of their communication styles.

Final assessment
After module five, 360 degree feedback including self assessment, is obtained for each participant. Individuals will then meet with an Ithaca consultant for a one-to-one coaching session to discuss the output of their 360 degree feedback and to compare it with initial feedback and to agree a personal development programme.

Module six (half day)
The final module will provide an opportunity for further discussion of participants' experiences and for sharing personal action plans and personal commitments for the future The participants may agree further meetings with or without the Ithaca consultants.
